Biography
Ben Stevens
There are many careers young people wish to follow by their early twenties, there are many who never get to that point, but Ben Stevens is one individual who has begun his dream. At a mere 22 years of age, this hard dance enthusiast is not only a DJ on a full time basis, but also working within one of the most distinguished dance labels within the scene; Vicious Circle.
June 2003 saw the arrival of Ben into their collection, and he hasn’t looked back since. With a place in the office, organizing those all important mail out’s, and combining his recognized artistic talents with a skillful listening ear, Ben also helps to filter out the successful tracks to be released on the uniquely individual label that is Vicious Circle.
Further involvement has helped him to gain further knowledge and seen him run the label’s online record store, bringing an organized, enthusiastic approach to one of their many services and more recently take on the role of label manager.
When he’s not in the office, he’s out providing upfront entertainment to eager followers. Unperturbed by the scenes rapid progression, he combined 2003’s techno phase with the recipients constant need for hard dance; providing entertainment for many across the hard dance spectrum. This multi-talented individual proves that with talent and understanding, he can play both vinyl and CDR – a skill that very few can combine.
As a resident with Vicious Circle, this artist has journeyed nationwide, pleasing those who gather to watch with the throbbing bass lines and intricate progression that have become increasingly popular from year to year.
With regular guest slots at Frantic, he is also able to pleasantly identify himself with the residencies at Parlez-Vous? (Bradford), Dirty Tricks (Oxford) and Toast (Manchester). Not only this, but with regular performances at Goodgreef, he is able to be recognized at Mixmag’s ‘Hard Dance Club of the Year’ (2003).
The memorable incident of being chosen as a replacement at the Tidy Weekender 4, in October 2003, was confirmation that this artist had more than what was needed, filling in for Karim at the jam packed event that has been known my many for being one of the top achievers for it’s entertainment and successful events. With little surprise, Ben’s set was seen by many of it’s attendees as ‘the set of the weekend’.
With outstanding performances that include; Australia New Years Day 2005, at Promise vs. Goodgreef Boat Party (in Newcastle with the capacity of 2500), The Winter Enchanted Event in Adelaide Australia (capacity 3500) and regular appearances in the foyer at Carling Brixton Academy (Hard House Academy) in February - with an even larger number of individuals mounting to 4000, it’s no surprise that Mixmag has picked up on the talent that is Ben Stevens, voting him amongst the ‘Future Hero’s’.
Over the past 2 years Ben has been working hard in the studio with his production work & has produced some high quality hard dance music. With releases on Tripoli Trax, Passion Records, Brain Damage Recordings, Hardtimez & forthcoming releases on Vicious Circle, DIP Recordings & Flashpoint Records Ben has a bright future ahead of him.
A ‘Future Hero’ he is. Not only does he ride the waves of the scene with ease and an apparent clear understanding of what it entails to be a young successful artist, he is able to adapt a genuine and attitude to his work and performances, making him a memorable enthusiast from the past to the success that lies ahead.
